About the Council

The NYS Affirmative Action Advisory Council was founded in 1978.  The purpose of the Council is to serve as an advisory body to the President of the NYS Civil Service Commission on all existing and proposed policies, procedures, practices and programs relating to or affecting Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunities. 

The Council is a membership organization comprised of administrators from 67 NYS agencies.  It holds monthly business meetings and is governed by executive order and bylaws.  The executive committee which is elected by the membership, sets the direction and coordinates the activities of the Council.
